We run Cycling/MTB, XC skiing and walking trips that are tailored journeys to suit your requirements. These can be from 1 day to 1 month in duration and take place in Australia or overseas.
Our experience covers walking and mountain biking and bushwalking right across Australia as well as a passion for XC skiing in the Snowy Mountains. Over the years we have run numerous activities in Australia including 2 day to 3 week MTB tours, XC ski tours of up to a week in duration and bushwalks of various lengths. Overseas we have run ski trips in the European Alps, ski tours to the Indian Himalaya as well as trekking journeys.
Let us know where you want to go and what you want to do and we’ll help if we can.
2008 – Mountain Biking in the Indian Himalaya
Dates - 21 September to 11 October (21 Days)
Cost - $2700 ex Delhi (ie excluding flight to New Delhi, India)
Group Size - Maximum 10
We will be running a 3 week trip to India with the central focus purpose being to take part in a 9 day MTB race called MTB Himachal.
Huw Kingston took part in this race in 2007 and you can read details in the March 08 issue of MBR Magazine (UK) (PDF © MBR (Mountain Bike Rider) magazine) and the April/May/June 08 Issue of Mountain Biking Australia. Huw has visited India on numerous occasions over the past 25 years to ski and trek and has run a number of adventure tours there. The race runs through the Himalayan foothills from the old Raj summer capital of Shimla to the Kullu Valley. This trip is an opportunity to take in some superb riding with the spice of racing for those who want it.
Arriving in Delhi, we recuperate from the flight for a day and a night, taking in some of the local sights of both Old and New Delhi. Then it is on the train up to Shimla, the final 6 hours transferring to the narrow gauge railway winding it's way up into the mountains. In the cool of Shimla (2200metres), we'll build up the bikes and spend a few days relaxing and doing some acclimatization rides in the area. We'll then meet up with fellow racers from India and across the world and register for the race. In 2007 there were 40 riders total. From 26/9 to 5/10 we'll take part in MTB Himachal, 700km of riding and racing over 10 days with a rest day included. Each day consists of a number of timed stages and a number of untimed non race stages. After arriving in Manali at the end of the race, we'll enjoy the presentations and celebrations before returning to Delhi by bus. Once in Delhi there is an opportunity for a day trip to the Taj Mahal, an absolute must if you have never been there, before flying home.
The race is suitable for intermediate mountain bikers who have a reasonable level of fitness. The fitter you are the more you will get out of the riding. Whilst the majority of the riding is not technical, there are long, long uphills (and long, long downhills!) on a range of trail surfaces.
Read more on the race on www.mtbhimachal.com or download the pdf here. The website and PDF have some confusing sections but will give you some idea of what happens during the race. Essentially the race is not as hard as the details make out!!
Price includes: Race Entry Fee, Transport within India, services of a tour guide (Huw Kingston), services of a dedicated bike mechanic, dedicated jeep accompanying the race, accommodation (hotels in Delhi, Shimla, Manali, camping during race), airport transfers, all meals/food during race, some meals at other times
Price Excludes: International Flights & Taxes, some meals in Delhi/Shimla/Manali, drinks, additional tours (eg to Taj Mahal), travel insurance, bike and bike equipment
