2010 Feedback

We love to hear your feedback and your comments make our job all that more rewarding. Thank you! Here are some comments we received from competitors this year...

I want to thank you all for an awesome week of mountain biking. Firstly to Huw and the Dark Side thank you for your years of hard work to bring the Mountains to Beach to fruition. It is an unbelievably complicated event involving so many different facets. To conceive such an event you would have to be at least a little insane (a point that Huw confirmed repeatedly during the week). To put it together you would have to be an obsessed workaholic (constantly evident with the early starts and achingly late nights that many of the crew put in during the week). To make it work you would have to love mountain biking, have a sense of humour and irony and a dash of sadism (again abundantly evident during the week). Your work, kindness and friendship helped me enjoy one of the greatest experiences of my life. I entered as a rider rather than a racer hoping to be able to complete the event. Through the support of the Dark Side crew and many of my fellow riders who dragged and pushed me from the top of Australia to the beach I not only achieved my goal but also had a bloody great time doing it. I highly recommend this event to all mountain bike riders looking for a challenge. The event offers a great experience to everyone from World Champions to fat old buggers like me.

I would like to say a really big thank you all of the team for an amazing week. This was an unprecedented experience for myself and team-mate and we are still reeling with the things we have done with our bikes! From going up on a Ski-lift holding our bikes to riding into the dawn with our lights and seeing the sun illuminate the mist on the lake to all the tracks & trails through forests, rocky fire-trails, mountains, open plains, cow paddocks (with very tenuous cow poo - still scraping it off the bike!) and finally wading in chest deep across not one but two sea water crossings with bikes. I simply cannot believe that I have done all these things and it feels like a huge personal achievement! You and the team looked after us marvellously - details such as even delivering our bags to the accommodation are much appreciated and the bike washing and mechanic services were wonderful. Thank you so much, we have had an epic time. I also think my riding has improved as well!

To everyone at Wild Horizons thanks for a great week of mountain biking.

When I left home my wife said “Don’t do anything crazy”. The she looked at me and said “What am I saying what you are doing IS crazy” .  It was fantastic fun, gruellingly hard and exhilarating all at once. I might have been one of the oldest in the field and dead last but I had the elation of crossing the finish line having completed every stage in the time allotted and it was a fantastic feeling.  Once again thanks to everyone who made it happen. I look forward to coming back for the MTB in 2011

I must congratulate you and your team for running one of the best events I have had the pleasure to be associated with. I have been a rider supporter at many events and this is the first time that I have felt the need to say thanks for a great experience.

Just wanted to say that I thought the overall running of the event was fantastic especially the course layout and markings. Not once did I think I was going the wrong way. I only really started riding a mountain bike the week before so was obviously slightly nervous at the top of the chairlift. Highlights were definitely the Snowy Mountains and getting washed off my bike by a wave on the first beach. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and hope to be there next year.

Thank you again for a fantastic week. Really enjoyed it & wish I was still there. Pass on my thanks to Huw, Wayne, Chris and all the team for a top event. I’m still buzzing from the experience.

Thanks for having me. It was by far the best week of cycling I have ever had, you guys ran a slick show. Those I spoke too agreed, it really was the best event I've been to (and I'm not blowing wind here ;)). I had a mechanical sure but who could let that rough 20k leave a bad taste after 360k of heaven :) I had a great time.

AHHHH  - This girl is tired, but happy!

Many thanks for your mails and the images are awesome! Feedback from all was the race was brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable. Your entertainment at the presentations was well received too. Once again you put on a magic show for all involved.

A line to express my sincerest thanks for what has been one of the best rides of my life! Since moving from the UK over 12 years ago I had always wanted to bike ride in the Snowys. The experience of last week was fantastic. Your great planning and coordination allowed for a relaxing week and I thoroughly enjoyed the countryside along with the company of all that I met on the journey.

Thanks for a great week last week… Was most enjoyable

Well done on MTB, looking forward to the next one.

It was great to see the event in Thredbo and at Lake Crackenback run so smoothly.

Well done. See you next year.

Yep. Was awesome like last year but harder than last year and more interesting stages...like the up to the neck in sea water on the last day. Many thanks for another terrific M2B.

Thanks for a great ride. Superbly organised.

Thanks again for everything, as always an amazing experience

Once again congrats on another very well organised race. Especially managing to create a course for the last stage was nothing short of a miracle, well done. I think the atmosphere was similar to last year, and the race certainly had a relaxed and friendly vibe once again. It was good to catch up with a lot of people that I met last year that came back for another serve. The dark side crew were fantastic as always. The course changes were well accepted by everyone I spoke to. From the welcome dinner onwards the organisation was slick. The ride guide was very informative and useful. Communication of any changes to the riders was also very effective.

Thanks again for a fantastic experience and providing such a well run and safe event!

Previous Years

Hello Ring-ins!

The Circus is only a month away! Have you started training yet? Here are a few more details to whet your appetite.

Roll Up for the last few entries!

We only have less than 30 entries left (although no doubt a few performers will get stage fright before the big day!) so if you are looking for a spot to perform in the Bigtop then don’t delay, enter today! <link>

The latest entry list is up on the web. Have a look to see who the competition is and if your details are correct. <link>

Category Correction

We made a small mistake on the entry form and some people who should be in the Veteran category (30-39) ended up in Open (20-29). We have moved you back to where you should be and notified you via email. Again, just double check your details.

Singlespeed SOLO category

Yep, you read it right. For all you freaks of nature; rather than wheel you around in cages for the amusement of others for the day… we have decided to let you ride your singlespeeds in your very own category. Just stay away from the normal performers please. J You can change your existing entry to the new category via the event management system.

Accommodation

Camping is available at Wingello Forest Camp on Saturday night. The RFS will have a few fires going to keep you warm and hopefully encourage some clowning around.  Alternatively various accommodation options are shown on our site <link>. For holiday houses not listed there please contact Bundanoon Real Estate www.bundanoonrealestate.com.au Tel 02 4883 6128

Food

The RFS will have the BBQ running on all four burners supplying a range of food and drinks from Saturday afternoon. The ever important mobile café van will be available for the caffiends amongst us. All services will be active between 4pm and 8pm on Saturday and will recommence at 7am on Sunday.

Dress Up!

Go crazy! This is your one and only excuse to dress up and not get questioned by family and friends. The circus accepts freaks and clowns from far and wide. Roll up, dress up, play up… If you don’t get arrested we may even give you a prize!

If you are having any trouble at all with your entry don’t hesitate to contact us as soon as possible.

Did you hear about the two cannibals who were eating a clown? One turned to the other and said “Does this taste funny to you?”..............
