About the DT Swiss Mountains To Beach

NOTE: All prices and packages are for the 2010 event. 2011 prices and packages will be made available before entries open on 1 October.

The DT Swiss Mountains To Beach is a 'tour' style event. Entrants, solo or pairs, will ride some 380km on a journey from the mountains to the beach, from Thredbo in the Snowy Mountains to Narooma on the South Coast of NSW. The majority of the riding will be in race stages that will test the full range of mountain biking skills - uphill, downhill, cross country, marathon, riding under lights. Whilst timed race stages will range in length from 10km to nearly 100km, there will also be a number of non timed, non race cruising stages along the way.

Route Description

The route will take you from the highest mountains in Australia, across snowgum lined plains, down along rainforest lined creeks and out to finish with your wheels in the sand and surf. Snaking singletrack, ‘wind through the helmet’ downhills, challenging uphills and some of the most varied scenery you could want.

Full route description available here.

Osprey expertise in carry, comfort and fit integrated into hydration packs. The fundamentals of our technology are simple, yet significant: eliminate poor fit and carry through Osprey design, fit and sizing, allow dynamic movement, create an efficient system for inserting and removing the reservoir, properly compress the reservoir for consistent water delivery and reduce barrelling and sloshing. The Raptor Series launches this technology in a group of packs great for mountain biking and trail running, while the Manta Series features packs great for day hikes and multi-use activities.

Bike Wrenching Service

There will be a team of highly qualified mechanics supporting the event, on stand by at the beginning and end of most days to help get you going should you have a mechanical. They will have a range of spare parts and other merchandise for sale, however we strongly encourage riders to bring plenty of their own spares, e.g. tubes, brake pads, derailleur hanger, chain, etc. as we can’t guarantee availability!

Bike Preparation

Further to the above, we strongly recommend that your bike is serviced by a qualified mechanic prior to the event. This is imperative not only for your safety but also for your enjoyment of the event. And we’d definitely urge you to thoroughly test your brakes prior to beginning the first stage at Thredbo – although this is a cross-country descent (i.e. with plenty of uphill riding), it is certainly fast and steep in places – not somewhere you’d want to find out your mechanic hasn’t done their job well.

Verofit Drinks Stations

verofit-65Verofit Sports Nutrition will be providing their isotonic electrolyte drinks at the various drinks stations we’ll be placing along the route. Why not try out their range of product prior to the event, or bring a supply along with you.

Muc-Off Bike Clean & Lube Station

muc-off-180Muc-Off will be present at the event, ready at the end of each stage with a range of great products to help you clean and lube your bike.

See www.muc-off.com for more info.

Physiotherapy & Bike Fit

Blair Martin, the Body Mechanic, and his team will be on hand at the event to provide a physiotherapy, massage, biomechanical assessment and bike fit service to competitors (and weary supporters!). Also, Blair is offering a discounted bike fit service, for $200 (normally $300), to entrants of the DT Swiss Mountains To Beach prior to the event - so if you're Sydney-based (or visiting), why not take advantage of this special offer!

Check out Blair's DT Swiss MTB stretching programme .

Vanuccino's Mobile Café

vanuccinosGood news for the caffeine addicts: we have arranged for Zoe and Hughen from Vanuccino's Mobile Café to follow the event in their coffee van. They will be around to help you deal with those early morning starts and top up the caffeine levels between some stages. As well as coffee they will have a range of other hot beverages, sports and soft drinks, muffins, and Snowy Mountains Cookies.
