Hello [FIRSTNAME]

Daylight saving ended (for some it never began), Easter crashed into Anzac Day, the kids are heading back to school and the mornings now see arm warmers and hidden legs. The Coolest time of year is coming around!! Chasing more sun and the strong dollar I’m off to Europe. First call a 5 day MTB race in Italy to live La Dolce VTT (A mix of languages here – we’ll give a free Fling entry to the first person who emails info@wildhorizons.com.au and tells us which languages and what it translates as!). For some bizarre, brainsnapping reason I’m taking a Singlespeed although I’ve only ridden one once. An extreme move for an excuse for poor performance! Meanwhile Wayne branches out even further - event organizer, artist and now proprietor of Little Joe’s Woodfired Pizza in Narooma – guaranteed to be a good carb fix if you are riding down that way.

Cheers...
Huw, Wayne, Wendy, Leah & all the Wild Horizons crew

TRAIL ALES – FRIDAY 29 JULY

trail-ales-2011-logo

Last year Highlands Trails, our local trailbuilding/advocacy group, ran a fantastically successful fundraising dinner in Bundanoon called Trail Ales. This was a gourmet dinner matched with selected boutique beers for tasting (10 in total) and MC’d by the wonderful Beer Diva, Kirrily Waldhorn. The night was a sellout and hugely entertaining. We’re doing it again on Friday 29 July which means you can enjoy fine ales on the 29th and fine trails on the 30-31st during the 3 Ring Circus. What a perfect weekend! Tickets can be booked online with your 3 Ring Circus entry. If you just want tickets for Trail Ales only then email Danien on info@highlandstrails.com.au

THE BUNDANOON OVAL TRAIL NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

There is a proposal currently before our local Council here in the Southern Highlands to build a MTB trail around the land of our main Sports/Recreation oval in Bundanoon. The idea was born from a desire to give the kids of town a fun, flowing, fully featured MTB track that, being in town, was easily accessible without parents needing to drive them to the forest. But it will be fun for all riders of all ages; local and visiting!. Some fantastic work was completed on the trail during the recent IMBA Trailbuilding Workshop under a temporary approval from Council. A small number of residents are unfortunately actively campaigning against the trail, putting out misinformation and scaremongering (such as emailing around photos of downhill MTB claiming that is what is coming to Bundanoon!). We’re asking the MTB community to get behind the trail by checking out the details here and writing to the Councillors and General Manager of Wingecarribee Shire Council to voice your support for the project. If you love cycling and want to see more young people active on bikes PLEASE help.

18 HOURS OF MELROSE & THE FAT TYRE FESTIVAL

melrose-01

Our good mates at Over The Edge in Melrose, SA have a double serve of MTB goodness in June. As always the June Long Weekend (11-13) sees the relaxed Fat Tyre Festival where all things except racing occur. But head there the previous weekend 3-4 June) and get your race fix at The 18 Hours of Melrose. You could do a lot worse with a week’s holiday than head to this MTB mecca and do both but at least enjoy one of them. Full details www.otesports.com.au
