Categories and Prizes

A category will only be formed if there are a minimum of 4 riders or teams.

Full Flingers

Solo – Male & Female

Elite
Open (18-29)
Veterans (30-39)
Masters (40-49)
Super Masters (50-59)
Grand Masters (60+)
Singlespeed (no age / sex categories)
Cyclocross (no age / sex categories)

Note: Solo competitors must be 18 years or older on the day of the race.

Flinging Threesomes

Relay Team (2 or 3 people)

Open (no age / sex categories)

We will allow pairs to ride in the Flinging Threesomes category. So, when wheedling or bribery has been in vain and you can’t rustle up a third rider, you and your team mate can enter the Flinging Threesomes category as a twosome. You split up the riding between transitions whichever way you choose, but each rider must do at least one stage. You will enter as a Flinging Threesome - just select Flinging Threesome (2 Person Team) as your event category.

Note: Relay team competitors must be 16 years or older on the day of the race.

Half Fling

Half distance – Male & Female

Open (16-29)
Veterans (30-39)
Masters (40-49)
Super Masters (50-59)
Grand Masters (60-69)
Great Grand Masters (70+)
Singlespeed (no age / sex categories)

Note: Half Distance competitors must be 16 years or older on the day of the race.

100mile Fling

Male and Female, 18 years or older

Casual Fling

There are no age or sex categories in this untimed participation ride. Minimum age is 14.

Prizes

Note: Prizemoney will only be awarded to categories with a minimum of 4 riders entered

In 2012 we awarded over $30,000 of prizes and $15,000 cash!

Loads of spot prizes for deeds done, fancy dress etc etc. It is not just about rewarding the winners.

This included $2,500 cash to the winning Elite Male and $2,000 to the winning Elite Female riders. They will also be crowned Australian MTB Marathon Champions and as reward will receive the coveted 'maillot tartan' (tartan jersey).

2nd and 3rd in the Elite Men received $1,500 and $750 respectively. 2nd and 3rd in the Elite Women received $1,000 and $500 respectively

1st / 2nd / 3rd Men and Women Placegetters in the Full Fling received $150 / $100 / $50 cash prizes respectively along with gear prizes. 1st / 2nd / 3rd Placegetters in the Mens 100Mile Fling received $1000 / $700 / $500 respectively with Women receiving $500/$300/$200. There are no cash prizes in the Half Fling but placegetters receive great gear prizes.

Prizes include great hydration products from CamelBak, the best cycle clothing on the planet from Ground Effect, Specialized bike gear, Shimano gear, bike gear from Sigma and Maxxis, event entry and accommodation packages and a whole load more!

Prizes given in the Casual Fling are spot prizes only. There are no placegetter prizes.
