The Wild Horizons R4 Mapboard hits the spot in all the right directions. At 400g it won't weigh you down, it rotates 360 degrees, the clamping mechanism is as solid as any we've seen and the 30cm x 30cm board is flat enough for your cheese and wine platter!! (it can be also be angled to suit your favourite mapreading on the fly position). It's excellent value at $105 and it's Made in Australia.
The other great thing about the R4 Mapboard is that by simply unscrewing 4 allen keys you can swap the clamp from a standard 25.5mm diameter to an oversized 31.8mm one. The latter, thicker bars are becoming more common so order the one that fits your bike. If you've a couple of bikes with different diameter bars then just order the clamp on its own so you can chop and change.
New for 2008 – The clamps now mount to the handlebars so that the Clamp Bolts go in from a horizontal position, making it easier to fit the boards without fighting gravity from underneath.
We recommend using bulldog clips to hold the map down (suggest you experiment depending on map sizes etc) although some may prefer bungee elastics.
