Through our work and events we support and raise funds in a number of areas.
One of the key planks of our event organizing philosophy is that the communities in which we operate benefit both socially and financially from hosting our events. Thus with all our events we work closely with local communities in areas such as catering and marshalling. Communities raise many thousands of dollars from such events for groups as diverse as School P&C's, Progress Associations, Rural Fire Service, Local Sports Clubs. Socially, comments such as 'The event brought our community closer together than for many years' or 'The best thing to happen to the village since the mine closed 100 years ago' are not unusual and are a credit to our participants and the spirit of the events. The Highland Fling event raises some $30000 for local community groups.
4Wheels4Sean
4Wheels4Sean is a national charity for assisting Australian cyclists who become severely disabled in a cycling accident.
To raise funds from the public by way of donations, sponsorship and the conduct of competitions for the sole purpose of providing financial assistance by way of the gift of money or chattels to permanent residents of Australia who the Trustees identify are in a position of financial need and are in necessitous circumstances as a result of a severe disability acquired whilst cycling.
In 2001 we set up a charity, 4Wheels4Sean, to assist Sean Fitzgerald, a keen cyclist, who became a quadriplegic in a mountain bike accident in June 2000 to purchase a specially equipped vehicle worth $50,000 to provide him with increased mobility and quality of life. Sean was presented with his vehicle in 2003 and the fund continued to provide for Australian cyclists in a small way for some years after. In early 2007 Australia’s peak cycling organisations Cycling Australia (CA), the Bicycle Federation of Australia (BFA), Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) and BMX Australia (BMXA) combined to relaunch 4Wheels4Sean as a national charity dedicated to assisting severely injured cyclists. The coming months will see the charity fully operational in terms of raising funds and accepting applications for assistance. For further information please contact info@4Wheels4Sean.com.au
