Route description

The Night Performance

In conjunction with our support act, the wonderful Ay Up lights, we’re running a 20km night performance for those who love it under the stars. The performance starts at 5-30pm on Saturday so you’ll have plenty of time to relax afterwards and prepare for the following day. The performance starts and finishes at the Big Top event centre in Wingello State Forest

The Matinee Performance

The Matinee kicks off at 10am on the Sunday. The 3 Rings pass through the Big Top event centre located at the Wingello Forest Trailhead. The loops will be completed in the order below:

Granny Gear
Blue Ring
6km of fast firetrail will separate the speedsters from the rose sniffers and allows riders to find their legs. There won’t be a lot of granny gear on the Granny Gear Ring.

Big Dog
Red Ring
Big Dog is approx 25km long. It traverses several gullies and includes one or two climbs (including the infamous “The Wall”!) and 13km of sweet, flowing singletrack. All this in beautiful native forest. 3 Ring Circus performers will want to go hard here – it's hard not to ride with a big grin on the face. However enthusiasm will be tempered by the knowledge that still to come is……….

Spinner Ring
Yellow Ring
Back to the Big Top and a last chance to grab some food and drink and some encouragement from the crowd. The 19km Spinner Ring (Ed – Look, why should Middle Ring not have a decent descriptive name like its neighbours. Henceforth to be known as Spinner) will test legs and lungs as it takes performers through some deep gullies and steady climbs. The bonus is that you’ll head through some mixed forests and open farmland on firetrails and dirt roads, with the end of the performance ever closer. A fast finish back to the Big Top and no requirement for an encore. The 3 Ring Circus is over.

About Wingello State Forest

Only 2 hours from Sydney and 15 mins off the Hume Highway, Wingello State Forest abuts the vast Morton National Park and sits at the southern end of the beautiful Southern Highlands region. Tiny Wingello village is only minutes away and Bundanoon, with a full range of accommodation, shops, cafes etc is only 20mins away. Ye Olde Bicycle Shoppe, our café and bike business, is located in Bundanoon.

Bike Hire

If you're looking for a bike to ride at the event then we can help. We have some excellent Trek 6500 hardtails available for $90 for 2 days (pick up from 9am Saturday) or $50 for 1 day (pick up Sat night). Return after the event on Sunday (security your responsibility!). See Ye Olde Bicycle Shoppe for more information.

Trail Ales

Following the sell out success of the inaugural fundraising Trail Ales in 2010, Highlands Trails, the local MTB Trail group who look after the Wingello trails we’ll all enjoy for the Circus, are doing it again. And it is happening on the 3 Ring Circus weekend; on Friday 29 July. Trail Ales is a superb night matching fine ales with fine food along with great entertainment. The very entertaining Beer Diva will again be in control of proceedings taking us through the beers we will be tasting. There are quizzes, live music, auctions etc and places are limited to 80 seats. Bookings can be made on the 3 Ring Circus entry form. All monies raised go towards the building and maintaining of the trails you ride.

Catering

Lunch/Dinner on Saturday and Breakfast/Lunch (provided by the Wingello and Penrose Schools) will be available as well as the all important coffee van. Additionally there will be race foods and drink available for sale from GU, our nutrition sponsor.

GU Hydration Station

The GU Station will be set up at the Big Top area for performers to fill up both before the performances and also between Rings.

Mechanical Support

There will be Mechanical Support, providing a bike repair service / basic spare parts available from

1.00pm until 8.00pm on Saturday 21 July and from 7.00am on Sunday 22 July, at the Big Top Event Centre.

Aquamann Water Station

If its good-old-fashioned Bundy On Tap you are after, The Aquamann water truck will be on site to quench your thirst.

Timing

The 3 Ring Circus is timed with transponders by Castech Sports Technology.

Marathon Photos

Marathon Photos will be on the course snapping away and will have a selection of photos of each rider available for sale after the event.

Join the Dark Side

As with any circus, the 3 Ring Circus needs plenty of backstage assistance. If you are unable to compete but want to join the Dark Side, then we’d love to hear from you. Volunteers receive food and drink throughout the event and a T Shirt. If you

can help then contact us by phone or to sign up head on over to our Event Management System with your username and password and fill out the details. If you don't have a username and password just follow the links to register for an account.

Registration Process

You must have your own unique email address to register, therefore no two volunteers can use the same email address. If you do not have an email address, please visit a webmail provider, e.g. Hotmail or Gmail to sign up for a free email address.

Join the Dark Side via our Event Management System, where you will first register for an account. You will then be able to login and enter the event. Once you have completed your details, you can login again at any time to edit or cancel your availability.

Highlands Trails

The Wingello State Forest trail network is increasingly popular and renowned for the ‘flow’ and sustainability of its trails. In order for the project to grow and to maintain the trails, help is always appreciated. Highlands Trails, a group of local MTB enthusiasts, coordinate working bees on the trails..
